Thank you to the Brett Vale Farming Team for lending their machinery to this event! The day is for 7-9 years to and allows children to get hands-on and learn more about food, farming and the environment.
By visiting a working farm, learning is brought to life with each workshop being able to be linked to many different subjects and national curriculum topics. On Monday, they had 4 different workshops hosted by experts in their fields. The workshops were machinery, livestock, farm retail and sausage making. As part of the machinery workshop, pupils learnt more about a tractor, cultivator and combine harvester and what crops are grown in Suffolk, with the team from CLAAS Manns. Nearly 120 children came to the day from four different schools; Kersey, Otley & Witnesham, Exning and Lavenham. Feedback from schools has been great with one teacher saying, “Thank you for such a lovely day. The children had a brilliant time, it was so well organised and the staff were all great. Thanks again!”.
Suffolk Agricultural Association began running farm outreach visits in 2021 when large scale events were not possible because of the pandemic. Due to their success, they have continued to run them and offer them to schools who are unable to attend the Schools Farm and Countryside Fair at Trinity Park in April. Suffolk Agricultural Association will be running two more Farm Outreach Visits on Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th July at Home Farm Nacton.
